Agreed but from my point of view with the action that congress is making on this issue, it is coming into an election year and it may not be more than lip service to appease one or another group.
They can change it, it is simple for them to do but they won't.

Legally they could but politically they won't. If you are a congressman you don't want to be on record as going against the recommendations of the "experts" at the DOT because as soon as you do, your face will be on a billboard next to the picture of the little girl who was "needlessly run over by a tired truck driver".
It a "hot button" or "third rail" issue that is a lose / lose for politicians. They don't care what is best for truck drivers because it is widely believed that since truck drivers are rarely home, we rarely vote. -
I think congress should pass a law making it illegal to comment on 6 year old threads

Some sites archive threads after X amount of time. Keeps them readable for reference, but doesn't allow for additional posts. And I saw the title come up and got all hopeful and stuff too
