This is a pretty open question. I'm wondering how some of you get on with your work. I find myself home sick at times despite loving the open road. I'm just wondering how some others keep on trucking when you're missing family or home for example (eg. Crank the music, talk on the phone, any other way you refocus)

Before anyone says it's not for me... I'm a driver for a reason! I love it.

    Please be respectful. Thank you.

Get a gig where you're home more often, that is the ONLY cure for homesickness, in my book.

What I do is consider the alternative of NOT earning a decent living. Of course, like you said OP you gotta really like it it.

Unlimited data helps:..you can get lost in a Netflix marathon when you're really missin home that kills the time pretty quickly. Podcasts help take your mind off things. I dunno driver...it's not an easy gig when you're homesick that's for shore.

I still get like that. It's fine I believe it is a very good thing you miss the ones you love when your gone I do. I talk to my wife a lot, text my children at night to wish them beautiful sleep. It makes you appreciate them when you get back home that time is precious. That's the downside of our profession. I cut back on those long times away from home for that very reason. I hope the best for you.

In my last job I traveled the world, 6-8 weeks out at a time, most of which was on another continent. We used Skype every 3 or 4 days, text and voice calls between.

If your company allows pets then I suggest getting one.Otherwise find a company that has a pet policy. My dog helped me tremendously cope with the OTR blues.

If you don't have a naturally solo personality I don't see how anyone could do this job. I'm a natural solo person, and I don't feel homesick. I do however get sick of looking at mountains, trucks, truck drivers, docks, and things like that. I talk to my buddies every now and then with my headset, but mostly for me it's audiobooks and spotify. Try to find a job where you get home more often (NFI comes to mind).

It helps to have a miserable home life.
I'd rather live under a bridge than go home.
I recommend you marry a woman from new Jersey.
But apparently my money is welcome there.
