Do you smell coolant at all? I always suspect heater cores because I have replaced so many of them over the years! (cars and trucks and my Pete)

As said - trace heater hoses from firewall, looking for taps that are turned off. May be close to the engine.

Do not turn off the one to transmission, if fitted.

True - maybe a seriously clogged air filter?

I think if the bunk is working, then it's probably taps turned off for summer.

    Hope he gets warm soon!

That old of a truck. Might have a water valve in the coolant hose also. The water valve has a cable that connects to the temp control slider knob. It's used to control the temp of the heater. It's possible the water valve is in closed position.

That's if it has one. Or the temp blend door is in cold position.

Check your heater hoses. If both hoses going to the firewall are hot. That's a plugged core. One should be colder then the other.

That's on top of what others have suggested in checking that your water valves are open.
