My customer is trying to find someone with a over length permit to move 3 20' containers.
What I've been getting back from drivers is, that is not possible. If it is not one over length container, it will have to move as a legal load.
Anybody on here can give me the absolutes?
Can I move..

As a general rule, OD permits are not issued to divisible loads.
-
But if the driver already has a OD permit, could he use it towards this load? -
Swa69Y Thanks this.

Ok, I am back.
What if these are empty containers and the weight is on the containers and the scale shows the correct weight.
The only reason I ask this is because customer is saying that he's had a driver get around the whole permit thing due to it being empty containers.
Thoughts? -
j_martell, TequilaSunrise and Canned Spam Thank this.

The weight isn't the issue. The over length is. You can not permit a divisible load.

Ok, for curiosity's sake, let's just say you could haul it legally (I know you cant), how would you fit all 3 on one trailer? I don't think they would sit on a stretch and you would be well over the fulcrum point on the 3rd one on a normal trailer. I guess you could make it work if you had the room for 5ft of front overhang and you had a 53ft trailer, or if you bumped them all together and had 3ft off the front.

3 feet forward from the front would put it in danger of impact with the cab during a turn unless you had a really long wheelbase tractor.
