If you have a load that requires the trailer (one long piece, can also be wide and heavy they will sell you a exit permit.

Yea I just called them that's what they said, I was gonna get a trailer that was 48' from kingpin to rear axle, but they said no. I just don't like all that overhang.

I'll take overhang on a 53 over a 48. But there seems to be different laws between the 2. As far as what you can and can't do.

California is one of them tough states to maneuver around with anything longer then 40 feet kingpin.

48' trailers no longer have to meet the kingpin law. Just buy the trailer you want. I run out there with a 52ft spread cattle trailer. I've been caught once and it was $137 ticket.

i would imagine the ticket would be much higher. If he were to load out, or in for that matter. And they made him close his axles. At which point he's now overweight for that axle.

I didn't see where OP was talking about getting a sliding rear axle. I ran out there weekly and sometimes twice a week for almost 2 years with a 52ft spread. I was loaded when I got caught. Got turned around at Truckee and had to go back to NV. The ticket was $137 for not being legal for the KPRA rule. The guys I know who have gotten caught leaving have gotten their ticket and been allowed to continue to AZ or NV. The only scales I would never cross were the one on 8 and the one at Chowchilla. Banning never seemed to ever care, same with Truckee and Cottonwood. They went on a tear for 2 months in the summer of 2013 ticketing big cow trailers, then they quit and let guys run out there again.
