He should be spending that sitting time on the iPad applying for other jobs. He would have another job within an hour of applying on line.

After he gets another job, tell him to quit and return the truck. No notice necessary. Nothing personal, just business.

 

That's true; he'll probably start getting job offers before he finishes filling out applications.

Schuster and Don Hummer Trucking are based in Iowa. That's not really important, but it's a start to a good future. Apply with several companies at the same time. Lots of good recommendations posted already and some of those companies have apu, refrigerator/freezer, satellite tv, etc.

 

@mom Van Wyk is also based in Iowa, assuming that your son wishes to stay OTR.

 

There's more than a few smaller companies with long nose Pete's that pull a lot of ice cream from Iowa to the west coast, reload back to Iowa, repeat. Look in the help wanted forums here, post his resume on line on other sites, and this one, post it on freight broker web sites, you can do it for free, I found the best gig, actually it found me by doing that. Got literally 60 calls in less than a week, Crete among them, people are constantly looking for experienced drivers, especially if he has 2 years current and a clean record. Check career builder as well.

I almost went to work for this company in Omaha that's on here, that has immaculate equipment, 2 years at the same job, they would hire him in a second.

This story is fishy. I am a company driver for Schneider out of
Des Moines. I don't have such problems. The last 6 months I had
to sit without a load exactly 1 day. And they've paid me a layover.
Sometimes they can't bring me home the day I've requested, but
when that happens, I am always home the following day. And they
are giving me the option to take an extra day off then.
I know the office staff well, so I believe there's much more in
your story. If it's real at all.
