My trailer got hit by a car while im running on the town road. The car's driver admited it was her fault. I brought the trailer to Utility. They said its take 3 weeks from ordering parts to complete the repair on my trailer. Called the car's insurance company. They said they could only pay for the repair bill, not for my 3 weeks downtime. I think it is unfair when car hit truck and truck lose income. Has anyone experienced in this situation. Please share with me some advices. Thank you!

Refuse to accept the first settlement they offer you. They always lowball you at first. Rent a trailer, keep receipts and file a lawsuit for lost income and any other financial losses. Just think, if it'd been the other way around, she wouldn't think twice about taking you to court.
jammer910Z, Flipflops and MrTrans Thank this. -
Yep.. like Troop said. Get yourself a litigator. They're responsible.
You won't get to sit home for 3 weeks and collect but they'll pay for a rental.
All insurance companies say NO. That's what they do. -
How can a car damage a trailer while in town, l'm guessing slower speeds, and what kind of parts can you be waiting on that take 3 weeks to get? Are they out of door weather strip and DOT tape ?
Flipflops Thanks this. -

Def get you ins rental prices and have them send it to the other company.

I'm not sure how it works in the US, assuming you are from there since most members on here are from there. Normally I would think you'd have an adjuster from the insurance company come out and appraise the damages and then you and your insurance company would have to come to an agreed settlement. Normally they'll low ball you and screw around a lot. I brought up the lawsuit thing as that is usually the next step if you can't reach an agreed settlement with the insurance company. Be aware that once you accept the settlement, the claim is closed and that's it (so make sure you are 100% satisfied with what you are getting)
