Are truckers side-swiping these cars on purpose or by accident?
Every once in a while, I'll see cars on the roadside that have either a missing side mirror or its entire side damaged by a trailer and it's tires.
What's going on out there?

It would be complete stupidity to intentionally side swipe a car on the side of the road. The risk of a blown tire or other damage should explain itself.
Wargames Thanks this. -
Saw a car in Michigan on I-94 today on the shoulder who was side swiped recently on driver side. Looked like big tire marks as well. Unsure if it happened while he was parked or when he was moving. There was a guy inside on the phone so it had just occurred but no other vehicle was stopped out ahead of him.

You don't hit &*^%. Don't even think about it.
So they lost a mirror, or a door, or a fender. Not my problem really. In fact being on that shoulder puts people passing by at risk. So I see it as a problem.
I hate to be heavy but If I expended time, energy and thoughts to all those poor souls who sit on the right side broken down or whatever I would have been committed already.
There is however ONE EXCEPTION.
Fire.
If they are burning, I empty the fire bottle to fight it. There is a mountain of them turned into safety over the years.Audiomaker and G13Tomcat Thank this. -

I'm gonna have to watch that movie again. Hilarious.

I do the same and have several times extinguished someone's engine fire.
Sadly, only once has anyone offered to pay for my empty extinguisher. I suppose it's because they are still in shock. I never say anything about it.
I can only hope that one good turn deserves another if I'm ever on fire.str8t10, Snailexpress and x1Heavy Thank this. -

Not trying to be funny here, but whenever I'm about to get over for a random vehicle on the side of the road, it turns into a game of "Derelict, or Occupied?". I tend to travel the same route all the time and notice if the same vehicle has been sitting for any number of days. Then there's also the faint outline or movement of someone inside that will give the slightest indication that it's definitely occupied, but for whatever reason all the lights are out.
