Hi Cat engine guru's. Does anyone know how to convert Cat injector trim file numbers into fuel delivery figures. I have been told that 5A503380548B gives a plus 2cc increase but I don't know what file it is compared with. I have a lazy NXS 475hp C15 that we have rerated to 550hp through Cat using the latest software. The engine has been lazy from new and now at 300,000 miles it has had new turbos, VVA heads, fuel transfer pump spring etc etc with no improvement. We have good results with non ACERT engines by having the injectors flow tested and adjusted to give all 6 the same flows and then using mild injector trim codes to increase fuel delivery from standard. Has anyone been here before?

PM Far_Call, he has spent time flowing Acert injectors on his bench and will be able to help you out.
With the correct 550 file, good FLS and FTS settings most 550s go pretty good, you should make sure you dont have other issues before playing with injectors.
Make sure the flash file you have is PM code 52.
Thanks for your help. I do not want to obviously reprogram this engine out of standard specs by changing FLS FTS or use resistors or power boxes. The vehicle is repaired by other dealers as well as ours. Thanks Jas we did change from PM 32 to PM 52 when we did the 550 uprate and it did make a big difference but still was still lazy compared with the 6NZ and 9NZ engines in the same fleet. Thanks Mr Haney, needing 6 unique trim files is a problem. How do fuel shops recondition these injectors and adjust flow rates? We have previous types recond and they all come back flow matched for 1100 codes to be entered. I have read the great info from Far_Call and others. There may be 6 different files that flow the same or similar. Thanks
A fairly High flowing Trim file but there is much better. Trouble is regardless of how high it needs to be matched to injectors so I wouldn't use it as you have 6 injectors so how do you balance those with 1 trim file????????????????

Opening and reading each corresponding trim file shows Ecodes of 3397, 3062, 2188, 3269, 6476, and 5023
Are the Ecodes the same as the previous type injector trim codes? and if so could we use the same code / flow data we have collected to find 6 trim files with similar but greater increases?
Or could we use 1 trim file and rewrite the file version number 1,2,3,4,5, on the 5 other cylinders?
I will do some tests when vehicle availability allows.
We have changed the original FLS/FTS from -11/8 to 0/0 which is allowed by Cat when reflashing from PM32 to PM52 Heavy haulage option. This may or may not be an improvement. The correct and more expensive option is a PAR dyno test. Cheers
The E Code is not the trim Code!
You can rename the one file but Cat did this for a reason and that was to stop people from using the same number in each cylinder due to the Variability in manufacture resulting in anything upto 10~20% fuel delivery..
Do so at your own Risk!!! It will never run smooth or be as fuel efficient as it will when done properly. Having said that EX factory they can vary wildly also.
I never do it this way and have seen too many do damage this way.. although some people think the Sledge Hammer approach is the way to go for quick cheap results.. IT WILL Cost you down the road no question about it.
I agree 1.5cc is way too much. The object of the exercise is to impove the engine. Does this mean that fuel shops cannot recondition these injectors and we are stuck with using crappy Cat remanufactured ones. With 2KS C12's and 6NZ & 9NZ C15 we have 6 injectors serviced and flow equalised and then use codes to adjust performance. We can still have ACERT injectors serviced and flow equalised but cannot use the same trim code in each cylinder.
