I would like to be able to listen to other truckers just for fun while out driving or the local police. I live in central MI and not sure how busy the CB is around here?
CB radio or police scanner?

Michigan has a law on the books that says unless you are law enforcement or a ham radio operator, a police scanner is illegal to have in a car.
taxihacker66 and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
If you aren't driving don't worry with it 90% of what's on it is junk.
-
Even just a cb radio to listen to nearby truckers would interest me. Would it be worth it as a sort of cheap hobby?
-
Thinking about getting the
Cobra 19 Ultra III
would it just take a antenna to be able to listen? -
That all depends on how far you want to hear.
-
Trust me you don't want to kick in money for even a cobra for a hoppy. Just get the CB app for your phone. It's free

Get you cb and magnetic mount antenna and enjoy your new hobby.
You can put the stuff on Craig's list or eBay when your done with it.Blaskowitz and handlebar Thank this. -
stop by a cb shop at a truck stop and get a cb radio thats peaked and tuned because you can recieve from a longer distance and talk farther. OR get a base station thats peaked and tuned and a linear amp. to plug your coax cable from the CB Radio into and a coax cable from the other end to the attenna. once i talked to someone in north carolina from texas with a 300 watt linear it had a pre amp built in the linear that amplified the recieve signal .

Don't worry about peak and tune. Get the best Antenna you can afford and get it matched to the vehicle it will be used on. Period. The antenna is 95% of a radios performance.
darthanubis and handlebar Thank this.
