    Looking to purchase my first truck from a private owner. How can I check the info on the vin #? Is there a carfax or something like it for trucks?

    Try running vin threw rig dig site they will tell of acc. history and out of serv. over the years.

    If you're looking at a pre mid 80's it might be a bit harder as the standard VIN number system (17 digits I think) came in to effect somewhere around then. Most websites won't recognize shorter VINs. I haven't come across one that recognizes the 7 digit one on my '80 KW yet.
