Linde is running ads for drivers hauling Carbon Dioxide. I was wondering how hard is it to run that type of tanker? Is there surge ?
They seem to offer decent benefits and it's a union shop, don't know if it's Teamsters or Chemical workers.
Pay is a a hair under .50 cpm plus $21.04 hourly.
I currently run for a small private carrier, but we are not replacing any drivers and every week the traffic manager has a brand new coffee mug from Penske Ruan etc...
So can anyone give me the pros and cons of this type hauling. I have drove since 87 and never pulled tanks, just totes and cylinders. Thanks

CO2 is a "piece of cake" as long as you follow all the safety procedures. Unlike some other hazmat products, it's odorless; and the vapors from carbon dioxide will become invisible when dissipating and can overcome you in a second. Usually this can be fatal. Also make sure to secure your hoses and bleed the pressure when done. Those hoses under pressure have broken many a bones.
Surge only happens when you have a partial load. You only feel that when taking off (hold you back) or stopping (a push forward). Usually there's no other surge.

Easy to load and unload. If you happen to spill some on the ground, no problem, it just goes away when it warms up.

    Easy to learn.
Wear proper PPE: face shield, long sleeve, ear plugs, gloves
    Take readings.
Hook up fill and revert lines,
Open revert line at your tank and open drain near customer tank to purge
Close drain and open customer revert line to equalize pressure.
Prime fill line by opening tank line and customers fill drain to purge and until you see CO2 liquid coming out of fill drain.
Close fill drain and open customer's fill line.
Turn pto on or start auxillary motor, engage motor and your pumping. Know your full mark or crack open your return revert drain line to use as a full trycock.
