Hi, I am Currently a OFS Driver in Sacramento C.A. Coke is getting ready to change our pay from hourly pay, to base and commission pay. They are going to give us a base rate of 117.50 per day plus .17 a case for cans, .27 for bottles, .57 for bag in the boxs, and 20bucks for pallet drops. We currently make 21.30 per hour plus overtime. We are concerned here that we will make less money with the commission rate. Are there any coke drivers out here with the same set up, or anyone with any knowledge on how this pay scale works? Any information would be great, since coke will not tell us anything other than it will be better.......

Well take your daily counts and see what you will make in this, it doesn't sound to bad a weeks base is at almost $550.00 and then from there it goes up, Figure your numbers from what you are doing now. I can't tell you anymore then what I see here. Good Luck.

Depends how many hours do you work per week and whats average case deliveries by items example cans, bottles etc then can times and average.
-
Maybe I'm just cynical, but my guess is they are not going to change your pay because they are nice guys and are really concerned about what they can do to pay you more money for the same job you are already doing.

Sometimes when a company changes from hourly to pay per case etc, its because they have a few employees abusing the hourly pay and milking the clock. This leads to punishment of everyone instead of getting to the problem people.

You can expect the sales guy to start stacking the coolers with product. You'll do more rotation. We were on commission when I done it. It all depends on the route. If you have a good route you'll do well and get off earlier because you'll work faster.

They didn't spend all that time coming up with that complicated formula to benefit you. Its going to benefit them in the end.
With that many figures involved in computing your pay, its done so you wont take the time to figure your pay every week. They will have a system in place that will take the amount of each type product that you deliver & compute it easily for the payroll department... obviously, you wont have that option, so you will have to manually figure your pay every day &/or week. Eventually, most guys wont go to the trouble so they are banking on the fact that, if a mistake is made, you're not likely to catch it.
Going from hourly to a base pay + the per item pay, takes away all your overtime. So, they can pay you regular wages all the time.... even if your working 80 hrs a week. They put in a lot of time coming up with this complicated formula so it will work for them. In the long run its going to benefit them, not you. If they wanted to increase your pay, they would have just given you a .25 raise or something.
As Condo Cruiser pointed out, they are counting on you picking up your pace now that your not hourly any more but... you know what happens when you get in a hurry...
Accidents happen. Something tells me they are banking on this with a few problem employees.
Good luck... -
What does OFS stand for?

I don't think it will be better for you but for the company. I worked for 7up n they abuse it. While I have an account that takes only 30 cases but with the wait for dock or receiver to check it in, probably close to a hour to deliver 30 cases. Do the math, not worth it.
You will have to rush from account to account to average a good $per hour.
Sysco Chicago was paying hourly. Boy do I loveee that overtime. But they were talking about going to commission pay. All the drivers refuse to change overRockey Thanks this. -
That's what we are worried about! Long hours and no overtime. I can't see how this system can be succuesfull, I see us losing a lot of good drivers. The teamsters were really looking out for us on this ########...
