Is there a shutoff on supply line so the entire system does not need to be drained for service? Local shop is not too knowledgeable on Volvos.

    Thanks,

Not sure on the shutoff but if they are just heater hoses, you could pinch them off at the engine with a couple pairs of flat nose vice grips while you fix the leak. Hose pincher pliers would work best though if you have them.

Also if you are replacing the heater core in the bunk, they will have to notch the top flange that the bunk rests on to get it out. No other way with out removing the entire HVAC unit which is a pain. Also there a 4 orings that they will need for the pipes. Whole operation is less than 30 minutes to do and that is with cutting the notch.

don't know about a Volvo but 05 Freightliner Columbia has the shutoffs under the hood. They are in the same area as the shutoffs (heater hoses) that go to the cab's heater core. Should be fairly easily to determine.

There are no shutoffs from the factory as mentioned by DaveLV.
If your leak is minor (can smell coolant when running bunk heat, but are not losing a significant amount of coolant) you may just be able to tighten the bolt on the hose flange on the bunk heater core, the o-rings can shrink and start to leak small amount onto the heater core. I've found to happen on both the 780 and 730 style trucks. You can gain access by removing the top cover of the bunk heater, the hook-up for the hoses is on top of the heater core. The clean the core, to try to remove the smell, the best you can with some citrus spray cleaner and rinse with fair amount of water. Just tightening the bolt or adding new o-rings may be all you need.

I've had 2 of these things an 06' and this 12' and both have had to have the bunk heater cores replaced due to leaking. Not sure who's making them for Volvo but they're junk. Trying to get the smell out takes quite awhile especially if it's been seeping for a bit, head ache city.

The new-ish shop that had never worked on Volvos before has changed three of them in a week and has another scheduled... Hahaha
