When I started in 2006, I spent like 7 days in cdl school, got the cdl and then went out with a trainer for 4 weeks.
I never had just a cdl permit

I told my spouse last week, whatever you do in the car, start staying away from the truckers. You don't know how bad they are getting until they screw it up. I don't want to have her get mashed...

Trainers must have balls of steel... "I know you just have your permit, and you've never driven before, so push in those 2 knobs and put it in drive! Wake me up in 11 hours after you park!"

Not balls of steel. Just a gimlet eye and examine them for showboating or dangerous tendancys. If the trainee refuses to accept correction or instruction delivered properly.. that trainee likely will be set back down onto the company yard off my tractor and told to go home when the officers in the company finish the discharge papers and get him a bus ticket home then and there. Ive had a couple bad boys in my day.

Again folks, pay for play. These companies hire lobby groups and funnel the $$$ to get legislation/rules passed for their benefit.

Another shot at lowering wages and filling their pockets. It's so bad that these companies can't get drivers they have to use their CDL students.

And we all can guess at what the starting wage is...

    Dharok and ExOTR Thank this.
