I'm asking this question because my trainer/instructor does not show great characterist of a driving trainer/instructor.

To sum it up quick I think a great & successful instructor desire to teach has to be to be greater than his desire to make money cause if it is they would do both.

Looking for everyone opinion of what they think are Great characteristics of a good cdl driving trainer/instructors.

!!!!!Please let's try to stay on TOPIC!!!!!!

That is a great question! Some fleets have such a large turn over they would never have enough trainers, lol.
500,000 miles with a clean safety and DOL record and no damage to the equipment for OTR, and 5 years clean for city drivers.
I looked into a job training new cdl applicants several years ago, the job paid 10.00 an hr, 40 hrs a week, lol.

    darthanubis Thanks this.

wow really bring up trucks again? :biggrin_25513:

    I think 2 years is a min.
But of course the more experience the better.

Some mega allow trainers after 6 months experience which I think is a joke.

Winter time driving in my opinion needs to be stressed upon more greatly.
In CDL school and in training not much was made about handling winter time for me.
Controlling a tractor trailer in snow and ice ain't fun nor easy!

too much of this is going on out there

I can see letting someone train after 6 months but only give them experienced drivers that just need to learn the new company's ropes.

What I would look for is a trainer is....

    5+ years experience
Laid back but knows when to, and how far to push a student.
Well spoken and precise when giving direction.
Stays current with knowledge of new laws equipment.

Those are some of the major things I look for

    I agree with you

    What I look for is
    Confidence
    Patience
    Good communication skills
    Acquire good teaching skills
    Passionate about teaching
Something they want to do and enjoy doing it
Desire teaching has to be greater than desire to make money cuz if it is they would do both
