They're rare. Popular for glider builds.

I did order it new. I was the same way, wanted one more non egr engine. Cat put a low nox program in my 99 model when they ran an overhead on it and refused to remove it (said they would be breaking the law by doing so), so I told them that was fine but my new truck would have a different engine in it. There was still time to change my specs so I switched from a 550 Cat to that 575 Detroit and it was one of the best engines I ever had. Would order another one in a minute.

I don't think Detroit really pushed it that hard because it was pretty expensive compared to a 12.7. But it was a lot more engine, too. The way I found out about it was I fueled at the Knoxville Flying J next to a Petty Enterprises truck that had one in one of those Freightliners that they had. Had my dealer check in to it and he found it in the available engines screen. I don't think he knew it existed either, and like I said earlier I went to several Detroit dealers that had never seen one in person. The techs would come over and look at it. LOL

I also read somewhere that they could upload an off-highway program for marine/industrial use that could crank them up as high as 800 hp.

Or the OP could compromise and get a pre EGR 14 L series 60. Had one of them unicorns in a 2001 Sterling

I have a 2004 12.7 Detroit. The company I pull for has a few 14l's . I pull the same loads they do and get much better fuel mileage and I have fewer repairs. Plus, I easily outpull them on the hills.

My truck does have the EGR. On heavy loads I get around 6.3 mpg. light loads I can get over 7 mpg.
The 14ls in our fleet get 5.2 to 6 mpg plus they don't last.

I am thinking of doing that egr delete trick. does anyone have experience with that?

You misunderstood what he said. He didn't say they were only sold in Australia.
