Got a factory reman 12.7 500 HP DDEC-IV pre-egr in my 2013 glider. Dumped the ECM when it got hooked up for a bad ABS sensor and lifetime mpg showed 7.93 mpg. I figure that is off a little, as calculated pump to pump averages come in a little lower. Real average is at around 7.5. Moved it over to a 10w30 syn blend oil a few oil changes ago and have gotten a slight up tick in mpg. No way to tell for sure yet. Will watch numbers for the next few oil changes and see if it is really happening.
One thing for certain, one can get an older truck in good condition and drop in a reman 12.7 in place of one that is getting tired.Last edited: Apr 9, 2016

I have a 01 12.7 500 hp and 370 rears and I love this engine , every time I get next to one of those 14 litter junk I love to play with them by staying about 200 feet behind them and just wait until they run out steam and when they do I just blow them away , even loaded this 12.7 can outpull them up hill , sometimes they ask me over the radio ( driver what the hell you have under the hood of that thing) ( cats are my special dish ) then again my computer is not as Detroit intended to be , this baby hits the ( 3 ) digits and a couple of numbers in to it , ( I LOVE MY DETROIT )
