From what I read that's vehicle speed sensor. So check wiring and sensor.
truckerbangin Thanks this. -
54 is a vehicle speed sensor fault. Could be a bad sensor, but more likely a wiring issue. Your engine has gone into anti-tamper mode because it's not getting a speed signal.
truckerbangin Thanks this. -
Ya, speed sensor. If the computer cannot tell how fast the engine is going it can't set the flow rate for the injectors and that's why it runs rough. It's an easy fix for any shop to do and should be a pretty cheap fix.
truckerbangin Thanks this. -
changed speed sensor yesterday and it still was derated. came back this am to troubleshoot the issue and truck was back to normal.
-
Sounds like you have an intermittent connection. Check for chaffed wires, loose or corroded pins in plugs,

Can you set your engine on high idle to a point where it runs rough? If so, start wiggling the wires and see if the problem comes and goes.
-
Also, did you set the depth correct on the sensor?
-
yeah i set the depth of the sensor right. truck ran fine all day friday and saturday. i'd like to figure out why my gauges are slow to respond or off
