Our company is looking for drivers 200 mile radius of streamwood il.
I have asked local schools abuot drivers the ones that came to us could not drive a manual trans.
Is this now a common practice?
Do any driving schools still use manual trans for training?

all the smith and soloman schools in nj are manual trucks
i love my automatic but you need to know how to shiftrambler Thanks this. -
I think manual trans should be required for schooling and a first time CDL holder's road test. It just makes sense that somewhere down the line during the course of one's driving career a manual trans is going to be encountered. How can anyone be a complete and competently trained truck driver and not be able to shift a gear? I do realize of course there are many drivers out there like that, but still can't understand it. To me it would be the equivalent of a pilot only being able to fly on auto pilot. Not the best of analogies but I'm just saying.

Roadmaster does, I think the closest to Streamwood is in Indianapolis.

I went to PDI in Churchville NY and all their trucks were Straight 10 manual transmissions. That's crazy to train on an automatic. Sure, it might be easier, but apparently it's rather useless if the new hire can't drive anything else.

I go past here regularly. All International 9400i. I doubt any are auto shift. Possible though. -
Daly's in Buford, Georgia does. If you can't figure out shifting in the week they give you then you aren't going to pass.

I didn't know there were schools NOT using manuals. That wouldn't make sense. Safe Driver's Institute In Indy uses manual.

I was trained on Manual transmission in Miami. though if I get job offer from Manual transmission truck company I will pass unless it pays 15 cents more than automatic
