Or it's possible he works for a company that only hires adults and "professionals" and therefore doesn't feel the need to encroach on their driver's off-duty time, spy on them, spring surprise random tests on them, etc.

Then don't drink. There are millions of people who can drink responsibly and never have a problem.
There are those that can't and shouldn't.

This. Any randoms are assigned in the morning when the driver reports to dispatch for their load paperwork. Their load is reassigned, and they are given a load with a later start time. They're clocked in and paid an hourly rate for the time that it takes. And they take a company vehicle to the testing facility.

Alcohol dissipates from the bloodstream at a rate of .016% per hour.
Let's say you set out and had several drinks in which your BAC would hit .16%. Note: the legal limit for a cmv operator is .04%
It will take 10 hrs for a bac of .16 to get to zero.

Many of those who have known me on this site are aware that before driving a truck, one if my earlier vocations was an Ohio State Trooper. While there I made several thousand arrests for dui and they all considered themselves "responsible" drinkers.
Anyone who consumes alcohol and operates a vehicle of any kind is NOT responsible.
If you are drinking on your 10 hr break and consume enough that you will test over the limit it will not be gone before you go back on duty.

    But you guys go ahead....
    After all....you are "responsible"

    scottied67 Thanks this.

How many drinks does it take to get to 0.16% BAC?

Ah yes, nothing like hyperbole and a complete lack of comprehension.

No one is talking about drinking and driving.

No one is condoning drinking and driving.

Just be careful you don't fall off your high horse.

Since you know your argument is invalid, I'll answer the question for you.

For a 180lb individual like myself, it would take almost 8 drinks to reach 0.16% BAC.
For the typical 240lb driver, that number increases to 10 drinks.

If I'm not at home, I stop at 2 drinks. That keeps me limited to 0.04%

I don't know anyone that can pound 8-10 drinks in an hour's time, much less someone that's on a 10 hour break.
