I got my first home time, at home, after I went solo.
During training I spent one home time with my mentors family. It was very nice.
I slept in the truck, but had a nice shower and good food and nice people around me.
Oh, and I was in training about 2 months. So it was closer to 3 months out before I got a real home time.
Don't be deluded by what you are told about home times.
You will be out a long time between, if you want to make any money.
Once you go solo OTR you should expect to be out 4-5 weeks between home times of 3 to 4 days.
A couple terminals only allow 2 days without cleaning out and giving up your truck. Phoenix is one.
My home times are never at my home terminal, so I don't have to worry about that.
The thing with home time is that your pay will suffer that week, and probably the next as well.
You will likely have 2 low pay checks for every home time.
You have to plan for that.
