Don't know about it being in the regulations but my next door neighbor drives for a company with E-logs and they have a line 5 for personal use, stopping at Wal_mart,trailer washouts, other things not directly related to driving or on duty not driving. Not sure exactly how they got it done but they're not having any problems I'm aware of and believe me my next door neighbor is not one to keep quiet if he doesn't like something. He'll flat let'em know about it and he says the e-log is very simple and actually works for him instead of against him. One thing he's adamant about is e-logs have brought that old "get it there" mentality to a grinding halt. The dispatchers are looking at his HOS and know if he has the hours or not. He told me by the way that his e-logs do not go to his company, they are sent to the company who installed the system and only they can send copies to the inspecting officer. He can notify them of an inspection and a fax or telephone # and they will take care of it. Keeps it out of the hands of a dispatcher or safety clerk so no changing or altering at the trucking company level. If he makes a mistake he can notify the e-log company explain the mistake and they will make the adjustment provided it doesn't go against the regs. I thought these e-logs would be a real PIA but his company has stayed within the FMCSA guideline and to quote him " ###### if they didn't use a little common sense to". Quite a compliment from a driver who less than a year ago was seriously thinking of leaving the industry rather than put up with a new system.

I'm not against the system, it actually shows the guys who are running and those who are not... and if the truck can dio a decent speed, you're not in bad shape. I first ran elogs with CRE in a 62 mph truck with low power, and that totally sucked.
CRE had an off duty driving section, which was nice... Total didn't have it, so if you're on a reset and want to go to Walmart, you either pay $30 for a taxi ride there and back, or screw up your 34. -

With Schneider the O/O's get a line 5 for personal business. the company trucks do not. And to use line 5 you cant be under a load. (Of course Schneider has been harping on "safe and legal" since I've been here almost 11 years so going to elogs was no big deal.)
