My engine temperature has been around 210 today... very close to the red. Running the AC keeps it around 200 to 210 but this is higher then usual. Any idea?

A few things we need to know before answering:
    - where are you
    - what's the ambient temp outside
    - what engine
    - what driving conditions

Dye Guardian and AModelCat Thank this.

Running in Montreal. The outside temperature was around 27 at the time. Engine is Volvo D13. Good driving conditions...

Any possibility that it is time for a new t-stat?? Maybe getting stuck opening or closing due to being crudded up?

The t-stat is usually such an easy (important) replacement. Especially for me since the cooling system is always on my mind. Josh

My N14 was running around 210 average last week when it was 32 Celsius, fan kicking in every couple minutes. Pain in the ### but it only did it for a couple days until it cooled off outside. Any higher than 210 I would be worried

Running your AC will cause the clutch fan to kick in often. That's why when you run with AC on, the engine temp is a bit lower.

200 isn't high if you're pulling a decent amount of weight around when it's hot outside.

Is your engine brake acting strange ? Is your boost gauge acting strange ? If you're running a D13, the actuator on the turbo might be acting up. That caused my pyrometer to go from 300 degrees to 900 degress . It also ran my eng temp up a bit as well. I have an aftermarket cooling kit on my D13 so I'm usually running at about 170 degrees.

    ishcp Thanks this.
