Administration has granted an exemption to Utah-based reefer giant C.R. England (No. 17 on the CCJ Top 250) from federal rules that require a commercial learner’s permit holder to always be accompanied by a commercial driver’s license holder in the front seat of the vehicle.
C.R. England applied for the exemption in December, citing it as a way to mitigate effects of trucking’s driver shortage by more easily getting new entrant drivers into the industry.

Under the terms of the exemption, a learner’s permit holder who has passed a CDL skills test may drive a truck and trailer for C.R. England without a
CDL holder in the front seat. The exemption is good for two years.

What's next? Maybe they will be able to use permit holders as trainers.

At the same time they're calling for higher standards in training CDL holders. Amazing. :|

I wonder how many H1B Visa holders they managed to get to drive a truck.

You know the same visa holders Disney used to layoff America workers.

I have always kept a close eye on C.R. ENGLAND trucks. The first fatal truck accident I saw was back in 1995 on I-85 north of Durham NC. One of there trucks hit a bridge abutment that crossed over the Interstate. I wonder if anyone keeps a record of how many drivers/ trainees and innocent motorist have been killed in the last 20 years by ENGLAND and some of these other training companies? I figure ENGLAND alone must be in the 100+ category.

As long as this kind of corporate welfare special "exemption" stuff continues the roads will continue to get more unsafe ever day. Your government doesn't care about safe roads. Yep, that's what I said FMCSA..If you did you would stop handing taxpayer money to these "trainer companies" hand over fist that put people with questionable character in the driver's seat. In almost 20 years of driving I've never felt so vulnerable and it's not just CRE.
