Is there a code in the VIN to determine if my 379 is an extended hood or a short hood? This question sounds dumb I know.

Could you call a peterbilt dealer and give them the last 6 of the vin? They will be able to tell you.

Here is a website that you can plug in your full vin # and find some interesting info of your particular truck. I don't think it will tell you what your looking for but where it was born and other details.

Should be easy to see. On the short hood the fenders pretty much come right back to the fuel tanks/battery box. Long hood will have about a 12" bigger gap than the short hood. Just Google short hood and long hood pics. Will be easy to spot the difference.

A standard hood is 119 inches from grill to back of cab. Extended hood is 127 inches.
