my brother got his cdl. He has a felony on his record. He served five in and was released on 99. The remainder was suspended and ended in 07. The charge(only charge) was allowing child abuse to occur). Would he be able to get his haz mat and land a driving job somewhere?

He may. Why didn't he wait to find a job before his CDL? 1) transam maybe 2) Western Express and if Carolina Cargo won't take him nobody will.

You don't have to have a hazmat endorsement to get a job.

Twic uses the same DHS check. I don't see anything like that listed. Also another aspect is the timing since. It has been over 7 years since release so your brother if what you report is correct should be OK to get hazmat.

It would be best to leave off the hazmat. A felony on the DAC is a problem.

The hazmat endorsement will be easy to get if he can pass the test (he's way past the restriction time period). The job will only be slightly harder to get; many companies don't care about felonies that are over 10 years old.

    Is your brother in Oklahoma?
    Paul Transportation in Tulsa
    Freymiller in OKC
Do the online apps then follow with a phone call; "I'm checking on my job application."

Thanks guys I was driving back home. I figured he might. E ok on the felony. He got out in 99 and was done with the remainder in 07. Only other thing is his wife drove through a red light camera and because the car is in his name he got the citation but that was three years ago.

Partly my fault. He was in the oilfield pretty much ever since he got out in 99. For the last five years he had been a directional driller for Weatherford but we know what happened in the patch. He was going through his savings and unemployment was getting close to ending. I had been telling him to get his cdl since the layoff and he finally jumped on it. His current wife had been wanting him to hold out for another job on a rig though.
