Things are starting to heat up in the Caribbean finally. The central Atlantic is exceptionally "cool" and killing what few disturbances that have moved westward, off the African coast. For the short/mid term, any potential tropical weather that affect the US will develop in the central Caribbean or Gulf Of Mexico.

This one is expected to move mostly westward and likely toward the Yucatan peninsula.

The eastern Pacific has been very active and keeps firing systems off the Mexican and Central American coasts but they are short lived as the warmer water pocket is pretty small before they reach cooler waters out midways towards Hawaii. Hopefully something may swing up and throw a little moisture on California at some point this summer.

No snow, no major spring/summer storms ... but hurricane season draws nigh. Early forecasts called for an busy tropical hurricane season for 2016 (as they have the last 5 years), but I'm just not seeing where those long-term models drew those conclusions based on the large expanse of cooler water in the Atlantic basin that has dropped much further south then usual.

Short term modeling is great, but mid and long term modeling has been off everywhere across the globe last decade and as such I'm getting a little tired of all the "sky is falling" climate change scare stories that are out there. And if you notice and watch the web for these stories you will see that they seem to come in waves ... like some get together and say "hey, we haven't published any climate crisis stories in 2 months, we need to create more scare, it's time to make up some stories and release one every 4 days, for 2 weeks for maximum effect"
