I'm about to trade in my 2013 Western Star wth a 560 hp DD15 on a new Cascadia. It has been hauling super B-train hopper bottom on the Canadian prairies. I just printed out DDEC Reports and looked at the regen history since January 2013 is as follows:
DPF Regeneration:
Parked Completed 8 ; burned 15.24 gallons of diesel
Driving Completed 92; burned 310.81 gallons of diesel
Diesel Exhaust Fluid:
Total consumed 2,183.49 gal
Percent 2.79% compared to diesel
MPG DEF 152.45 mpg
I thought that wasn't too bad of a history. But cost wise that equals about $1,300 for diesel and $6,200 for DEF plus $2,800 back in June when I did the DPF filters for a total cost of $10,300 over 332,000 miles or 3.1 cents per mile.

& what was the diesel mpg for that time period to compare total cost of running a 2010 EPA spec to the pre 2003 emissions standard engines? With say an average mpg of 7.0 on a series 60.
Also, thought that running at highway RPM automatically was considered a regen without extra fuel necessary?
Is there an extra process that drains more fuel on top of driving?rachi Thanks this. -
The DD15 injects diesel fuel into the DPF for the on highway regen. I think the current Volvos do not.
I got 4.435 us mpg ( 5.32 imp mpg) over three years counting all miles summer and winter. That's hauling super b-train hopper bottom 130 to 140,000 lbs.Lone Ranger 13 and archangelic peon Thank this. -
Good god; I'm guessing at that weight, any engine would be similar or worse. Thanks for detailed information!
uncleal13 Thanks this. -
Why would you trade your Star for a Cascadia? That's quite the change.
I should do a history report on mine. -
Hey Uncleal13 we should all do those and mass email the EPA. ########.
uncleal13 Thanks this. -
Just picked up the Cascadia today. I wanted something a little quieter, smoother ride, and way better aerodynamics. I got a Bose Ride seat in it and an UltraShift tranny.
archangelic peon and Star4900 Thank this. -
Do we get to see it? I just thought it was odd...normally Star hood guys don't jump to Cascadia's LOL.
Last truck show I went to they had those Bose seats set up to try. I didn't....because I didn't want to have to buy one! LOL. At least this way I don't know what I am missing.
What did you get for power?
Keep us posted.truckthatpassesyouby Thanks this. -
I got a 600 hp DD16 @ 1,850. I wanted something a little quieter, smother ride and better hvac.
Here it was yesterday when I picked it up in Edmonton.
Lone Ranger 13, OLDSKOOLERnWV, Dave_in_AZ and 4 others Thank this. -
So guess I'll be looking for you in the Freightliner forum now? LOL. Looks good.
Keep me updated as you go.
I just spec'd out another new 4900 dump but with the DD16 600/1850 this time. I want a little more power pulling the pony in the winter.
Hope it treats you good.uncleal13 Thanks this.
