Hi, I have been encouraged to start a post about my training at GCC I started last Monday May 17th 2010 and I will tell you it is a great course, I have learned a bunch, We have been in the book(CDL Drivers Manual) and been instructed with a Union Retired Driver who has driven in every situation there is around anywhere, We will have him this week(Week 2) and then for weeks 3-4 we will have another instructor, The instructor told us that they do it that way so that we students don't get used to the way the instructor teaches and so forth, He has been a GREAT Instructor, We all were having trouble with a few items of the combination set up today in class and so he took us and we talked about where the problem was, He went back over all the combo information etc. The last 4 weeks we are there we will be in a truck 2 students to 1 instructor, I would highly recommend anyone who wants to become a truck driver to take a course like this at their community college, This way they are not put into a situation where the company they got their training thru is not what it seemed to be on the outside they can leave and go to another company, I myself am going to Watkins Shepard when I have finished my training in mid July 2010 and I will go thru the 10 days of training on their equipment and proving that I can make it out on the Highways and By-ways and that I will be safe.

I learned tonight that we are actually going to be trained in First Aid and CPR on Friday and that this is a requirement for the course offered by GCC, I think that can be very important either if I can stop to assist in an accident or to apply it to my family life if it should ever be needed. I will try and come in here often to let you know what is happening with me and my adventures at GCC. Thank You. TD.

Wow, its good to see your post. I have also considered using the GCC Truck Driver Training course so please keep posting. Good luck with your training, I hope it works out for you. As far as Watkins/Shepard...I have only heard good things about them. Again, good luck.
