07 Pete 340 cummins ISC 8.3L...ac works great until I turn on headlights or clearance lights, then just blows hot air...I can turn it on defrost & then compressor kicks in fine & blows cold out defrost vents but then I turn on ac switch & I lose instrument panel lights...unedumacated guess is a ground issue but I'm not sure where to check...I'm a decent parts changer but not a technician nor electrician & not real keen on reading a schematic even if I had one...any hints on where to check connections or any other help would be GREATLY appreciated, these hot Texas nights are killing me.
Ground issue, maybe?

Doesn't sound like a part changer job. Also can't believe a ground problem. Can't think how one could backfeed into another. Someone been splicing into wireing?

Strange problems like that are very much a sign of a ground issue. Not saying that is what your problem is.
I'd look around behind the dash. If you can't find anything I'd try grounding the panel lights with a jumper to a known good ground. See if that changes anything.blessed2b Thanks this. -
take dash down and check wires...... sounds like you got a bare wire somewhere. trace wire lights n ac switch more than likely thats your problem
blessed2b Thanks this.
