Wondering if anyone could recommend a decent handheld 2 way radio. Preferably something that can be field programmed and charged from a cigarette lighter. I recently started being dispatched down more and more oilfield lease roads and logging roads that are radio controlled. Kind of getting tired of being escorted everywhere like a little kid or a lost puppy lol.

Are you talking CB, or something that is probably not legal for what you are intending to use it for? (Without a license)

I'm thinking a VHF would likely work better than a UHF. As I recall, the UHF has more problems with wooded areas, but works well in urban concrete areas....Rabbiporkchop & Bout Z know a lot more about radios than I....I'm sure they could help you out....

Confused who do you plan on talking to.
    Guess you might need two?

Also you do realize you can't just program random frequency.

Also you know the radio you linked is gonna cost you over $2,000.

Just need one. Very few loggers and oil patch trucks have CB's. They usually just run a VHF 2 way radio for calling their kilometers in the bush since most lease/logging roads are only single lane. My service truck has no radio and my company won't provide one so I was thinking about buying my own handheld. That way I don't have to wait at the entrance to the road for someone with a radio to come and escort me in to where I need to go.

Maybe ask what radio's they're using on your next run? Hell...they may even loan you one. I loan 2-ways to contracted vendors all the time.

Find out what radios/frequencies they're using.
Hopefully they're all VHF or UHF, so you won't need a dual band radio.

Guessing they wouldn't have a problem with you using your own on their frequencies.

Without knowing what they're using not sure anybody can give you a good recommendation on what to buy/get.

If they are using VHF rigs, then the company should be licensed for them. It is easy to just get a radio but if it is trunked or part of a network, that's costly.

    Balakov100 Thanks this.

I was going to add that.
    Hopefully it's Analog Conventional.
    Not trunked or digital.
