stick with the local public works for the benefits and ask for more hours there is no need to work the docks to work your way up at abf

At many ABF terminals you need significant seniority to be able to work the dock past training. This varies from terminal to terminal so you would need to talk to someone at that terminal to find out what would happen if you worked there.

By the way..... did they tell you that you get no vacation until you have been there 2 years and you don't get a second week of vacation until you have been there 8 years? This will likely change in two years when the next contract is due.

Public works all the way. You have to like kill someone to get fired from PW job, and they do not work hard.

Given those options, I'd take the Public Works job.

The pay may be less, but the benefits should be better.

Up here public works is usually a grandfathered gig, that is you need to know someone or have family in the works dept. The job openings are gone months before they are posted. Take the pw

Had a friend that tried ABF P&D position. He was essentially a fill in, if everyone was in that day, he didn't work. He didn't stay long.
