Oh yeah, I hit a dear pretty darned good 2 years ago, made a God awful sound(s) too as I did. Must have done nearly $6 grand in damages I was told by Penske.

All my company said to me was (as we had a telephone safety conference, with all our drivers) "Everyone watch out the best you can, and IF you hit'em, you hit'em, WE WANT YOU ALIVE"

I cannot for the life of me ever remember any trucking company I worked for, or at any orientation, tell me to swerve to avoid hitting an animal. DO YOU..???

This probably soon to be unemployed driver, did a BIG NO-NO, what was he thinking..???

If anything, pour the coal to it and aim straight for the poor thing.

Came out of the sleeper one time outside of Ft. Peck in Montana and my co-driver handed me a fog light. "Sorry, boss, but I hit a deer". He was a little surprised when I told him he was going to get a raise, because I didn't even wake up when he hit it.

They are supposed to say "poor deer", not "poor truck driver's widow".

That's right. If the deer are suicidal, we should oblige them.

December 2013, on my last load before I was taking time off, I smacked a deer. It busted up the fiberglass but didn't get into anything on the front of the engine luckily. I ran the truck until February 2014 when it slowed down enough I could take a couple weeks and fix it. New hood and other parts, paint, etc. I was out of the body shop for 6 days and I got another one. New hood and all that good stuff again. I put a Herd on the front after that and I haven't come anywhere close to hitting a deer since. But the peace of mind while driving at night is priceless.

One thing you should never say... "I hit a deer".
That is admitting guilt and can be turned against you as a preventable accident.
(I know people that this has happened to.)

Always say "A deer hit my truck"

I think a moose bumper is a really nice investment, 1 deer and it's paid off!
