All my company said to me was (as we had a telephone safety conference, with all our drivers) "Everyone watch out the best you can, and IF you hit'em, you hit'em, WE WANT YOU ALIVE"
I cannot for the life of me ever remember any trucking company I worked for, or at any orientation, tell me to swerve to avoid hitting an animal. DO YOU..???
This probably soon to be unemployed driver, did a BIG NO-NO, what was he thinking..???NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
If anything, pour the coal to it and aim straight for the poor thing.

Came out of the sleeper one time outside of Ft. Peck in Montana and my co-driver handed me a fog light. "Sorry, boss, but I hit a deer". He was a little surprised when I told him he was going to get a raise, because I didn't even wake up when he hit it.
They are supposed to say "poor deer", not "poor truck driver's widow".NavigatorWife, tsavory, Big Don and 1 other person Thank this. -

December 2013, on my last load before I was taking time off, I smacked a deer. It busted up the fiberglass but didn't get into anything on the front of the engine luckily. I ran the truck until February 2014 when it slowed down enough I could take a couple weeks and fix it. New hood and other parts, paint, etc. I was out of the body shop for 6 days and I got another one. New hood and all that good stuff again. I put a Herd on the front after that and I haven't come anywhere close to hitting a deer since. But the peace of mind while driving at night is priceless.

I hit. Two at the same time right before wells nv, west bound.. My dad sad most hunters rarely hit one with a sniper you hit two with an 18 wheeler

One thing you should never say... "I hit a deer".
That is admitting guilt and can be turned against you as a preventable accident.
(I know people that this has happened to.)
Always say "A deer hit my truck" -
I think a moose bumper is a really nice investment, 1 deer and it's paid off!
