How come day cab jobs pay so much more?

    It Makes it easier to hop on home to my own bed or.... Like tomorrow hop in to a hotel bed. and then of course hop on back

    Local jobs pay more because your on more of a time crunch for how much you get done in a day vs otr. That's why drivers with more experience are the ones preferred for local driving jobs. Of course to get more experienced drivers you have to pay more hence one of the main reasons for local drivers making more than OTR. That and OTR gets a ton of new drivers coming into it which depresses wages so it makes logical sense that local guys make more than OTR.

    This isn't true... I've done both local and OTR...

    The local LTL company I worked at had countless new drivers...

    Working at a place like Conway freight your spending 80% of your day on the dock as a new driver/new employee until you move up to better bid runs! which could take years

    If you ain't making over $800 a week as otr driver when freight starts getting back to normal then look for another job. And Day cab jobs don't pay as much as you believe. 1 out of 10 may pay the amount you stated but not all.

    The vast majority of drivers fresh out of trucking school go straight into OTR. Yes Conway might recruit a lot of new drivers but the vast majority of new drivers go into OTR. As far as working the docks at an LTL outfit and possibly not getting a run for years goes I had that experience when I worked at Fed Ex and it's one of the reasons why I quit after a few months.

    What he stated was actually pretty accurate as far as local pay goes unless you work for a **** outfit.

    Local Intermodal for JB Hunt you have shifts. There are no extra boards and you are never on any type of call. As far as working a full 14 hour day goes that happens but you generally have to ask for extra work for that to happen. Drivers split seat for local intermodal so they try and plan you to work 12 hours or less so the truck is available for the driver you split seat with.

    Most local companies also pay from the time you start work till the time you go home, everything you do is paid.
