I'm currently studying for my CDL-A permit and once I pass I'm moving from NYC to Tampa Fla.

Its my understanding that finding employment as a beginner is difficult and many people have recommended that I go thru a trucking school that will hire you upon graduation so that you can at least get a year experience under your belt.

This is my first post here and would appreciate any advice on this matter. Thanks!

You'll have so many job offers you'll learn to hang up on the people asking you to drive for them

Get a second phone and use that number to give to recruiters. When you land your job, turn that phone off so your primary phone won't blow up.

    Even with no actual experience?

Do you recommend I go thru the school or find employment on my own once I obtain my license?

How's your driving record, tickets, dui's?
    Criminal history?
If that's all good you'll have many choices.

Clean driving record. No points, no dui's.
Sealed juvenile offense from when I was 16. I'm 36 now

    austinmike Thanks this.

I went through a private school out of pocket and in my opinion that's the best option if you can afford it.
Even if you only have your permit you've got a good record, you'll have plenty of options with training companies so don't just pick the first one that offers you a job.

Don't even bother mentioning the juvenile offense to anyone. It never happened.

I had a job offer 30 mins after submitting an online application. Even though I requested email only contact, my phone was ringing and a recruiter was asking how soon I could make it to orientation.

This is the only industry I have worked in where I did not have to interview before being offered a job. Even my first ever job collecting shopping carts at a supermarket had 2 interviews I had to go through.

Get your license, compile a list of companies that YOU want to work for then start applying.
