How long do you keep your logbooks?

At least 7 years. The IRS can audit you for the last 7 years (but usually only the last 3). I want those logs to prove where I was, when I was there and to justify my deductions.
Yes, I have been audited several times and the log books saved my bacon one way or another each time. -

My Question is why keep them after the year is over?, once there not needed any more, and ive filed, in the shreader they go.

After the year you file and you shred them, 3 years later they show up to audit, what do you do? -
I have log books somewhere that go back over a decade. I just hate to throw paperwork away.

The DOT came to a company drivers house and audited him personally. This same guy was fined for violations over a decade old.
That post was supposed to be in the joke or fairy tale thread right.
