how long to keep logs?

Now me as a log auditor I request my drivers to keep them on the truck for # least 2 months. This is because sometimes we will show a log missing and we need you to re-submit it. If you can't re-submit it then it shows as a missing log. This means you and I can get a fine 5 months down the road for missing that log. Also if you have log violations and the auditor is talking to you about them over the phone you can look over the log they are violating you for. -
I can't be of much help because I run local now.I use an electronic time card for duty status.The only time I fill out a log is if my day exceeds 12 hours.I do know that employers and owner-operators(not leased) must keep log records for three years.You'll find that rule at FMCSA's website under "Disposition and retention of records".Do a search under 379.13 then hit Appendix A.

If you are an owner operator you will probably need to keep them 6 months as well.
