so I got down to Florida today and dropped my tail car off in st Augustine then ran over to the flying j to park for the night.
Well it was the usual cluster there and it took me twenty minutes to get back out of there.
Got back out on 95 and started heading south to the rest area of coarse it was full too.
So the next plan was behind the south bound scale house.
Plenty of parking of course no problem.
So I as I sat parked at the scale house I figured this would be a great time to run in and ask in ask a dot officer about the yearly 20.00 over hang permit that you can get in Florida.
Well he was finishing an inspection with a driver so I waited patiently.
When he was done I stepped up to the window and ask the question.
He proceeded to tell me there is no overhang permit and car haulers were allowed 3 feet and 6 feet.
I stated to him that I am a high mount not stinger steered.
He said it didn't matter it's still a car hauler.
He even got out his book and showed me a diagram of a stinger steered car hauler and pointed to the 3 ft
6 ft rule and said see.
I said thank you for your time and headed back to my truck........

Ever heard of the drunk going into the police station and asking to be given a sobriety test? Does he really need to know this now, given that he just parked his car in the parking lot?

Did you read the original post???
I said I dropped off my tail car.
Maybe I need to explain this to you.
You see when your a car hauler the last car on your trailer is the tail car and sometimes it hangs over a bit.
When it hangs over a bit that is called over hang.
Over hang can be bad sometimes if you run a high mount.
So when you deliver you tail car you have no more rear over hang.
    Lmao

I realize that the dot officers at the scale houses are not my best friends.
But I can tell you this.
The many times over the last thirty years that I have stoped at various scale houses and asked a question not once have I heard "The answer to your question is xyz and now that you understand that I'm going to give you a full inspection "
Drivers need to stop being scared sheep when it comes to dot.
Which brings up another point from the other night.
The truck stop I stoped at was so full it took twenty minutes to get back out to the highway, the the rest area was completely full including illegally parked trucks everywhere.
When I got to the truck parking at the scale house there where at least 40 or 50 open parking spots there.
A lot of drivers believe the myth that if you park there you will be inspected in the morning.
This is untrue and if you have ever seen the video done by the scale master of the wildwood fl scale house he states this is not true.

    Kawinige01 and Terry270 Thank this.
