In the early 1990's there was a company in Edmonton that only did the ice roads. They worked the ice and parked their trucks for the rest of the year just keeping on a few fellows to do the maintenance for next season. That should give you an idea of how much money there was on the ice roads.
Then when they discovered diamonds up there the rates started to drop long before the TV show came on the air. But that only made it worse.
