The Thread title says it all- I'm planning on deducting the yearly cost of Spotify- I wonder if the IRS agent reviewing my return will have his headset on as he marks my return for audit.

So, here's the answer to your question from the IRS (I'm in the middle of an audit). You can only take up to 20% of the total cost per year for your Sat. radio, as you can claim for traffic and weather, Spotify, Pandora, or similar are not deductible as they have no true legit use, they are considered "Personal Entertainment".

Because the IRS decided that I looked like a good random target, every line item on my return has been questioned and refigured or allowed as stated. The one thing I have learned, very few tax atty. or accountants actually understand tax deductions for trucking, and the ones that do, want two arms and a leg to defend, and if the amount owed is less than $10,000 they aren't interested.

That's funny my last audit I had they allowed XM radio 100% because it was part of the radio in the truck but more importantly it was a tool (weather, traffic and industrial news).

Don't know when your audit was, but mine is still ongoing.

Does he give a reference to where they came up with 20%?

Interesting to note I was audited for 2008 and I was able to take 100% also.
