Simply enter *228 and call. It says activation, yet what it is doing is pinging all the cell towers in that area.

On Verizon's 4G phones with SIM cards, *228 doesn't work...putting your phone in and out of airplane mode causes it to look for it's closest tower on it's preferred network list (which is updated automatically on their 4G system)

I've had the air plane mode on/off work for me a few times with Verizon. But for the most part my phone is pretty good about having a signal when there is one available. 90% of the time if I dont have a signal,.. I'm in a dead spot and there simply isnt one to be had.

I have a cradle style booster and run that area all the time.
I have signal most of the time. Some areas just have no towers.

I used to take the back road to get around all the scales but I don't know the names of the landmarks out there from what I remember though I had signal the whole way. The key is to get your antenna up as high as possible over the roof

    Newer phones might also help.

My samsung s6 has much better coverage then my samsung note2 did. Apparently verizon has new types of cells for their new LTE signal. That don't work with my samsung note2 that was bought 2 1/2 years ago.

You DO have to make sure HD voice is activated on your account, though. Or you'll miss a lot of coverage and you can't surf the net while talking. Learned that my first week out with the new phone.
