I had the truck in to get the water pump changed and asked them to look into a "check engine" light that comes and goes. Was told the only code they see is an "injector solenoid " code. Its quite self explanatory what it is referring to but my question is...has anyone had to deal with this code? If so what was the solution? Shop said it could just be a wiring issue as its an intermitent thing or it could be that the injector solenoid is malfunctioning. I told them that it comes on and stays on then sometimes doesnt come on at all, then sometimes comes and goes during the day driving. It was started doing that on the last trip. They say they would first diagnose if its wiring or actual injector solenoid , they say that could take up to 4 hours. Then if they determine that its not wiring then the valve cover comes off and they continue until they determine the exact problem, then repair / replace it. I can see this running into a good chunk of change to get resolved. Just what are the options/ possible solutions to this ? If they are in there should i consider an injector overhaul for all six?

Had one of mine go they said it was the electronic side of the injector. Still under warranty so 1 reman injector and off I went. Don't think I replace all of the injectors. Forgot how many miles on your truck I'd
Do 1 and done. If a second one let's go you can do the rest in 1 shot.

700,000 miles on my truck. How do you know when an injector goes out? Does it do any damage to anything else or does the engine just derate?

I drove mine maybe 100 miles with check engine lite on. Don't even think it derated can't remember though. No other damage on mine.
I think they said the wire connector was broken where it attached to the injector. Hope the little gremlins stop screwing with you .

KW9...find someone with whatever tech program you need and do a cutout test. Do the test that cuts each injector individually. It will record a number. The number refers to "rack travel" in a mechanically injected engine. The electronic engines do not have a "rack" so the number is just a reference. As long as your injectors are within specs of one another...normally within .02mm if I remember right you are fine. Once they get further out of this range idle quality and power will diminish. The test only takes a few minutes. Dealer will charge alot just to hook it up. Would be good if you found someone that would do it for you if you wanted to check it out.

Also as each injector is cutout or turned off you can hear the difference it makes. The more substantial the difference the more power you are getting from that cylinder. This can also be used to find a weak cylinder. Works just like loosening an injector line on a mechanical engine and see if it makes a difference. It won't always find the problem...but normally at least allows you to narrow it down to a particular cylinder.

You can easily pull the valve cover and visually check out the wiring. make sure there are not any cracks and such in the wiring. It really needs to be ohmed out to check for sure. Check all the tops of the solenoids...make for sure the nuts are tight. We actually had an injector solenoid come loose. When this happend we had an AWFUL idle and low power. Never seen this before but tightened the soldnoid back up and it was good to go. I have no idea how it did it...but was loose by about an 1/8 of a turn. Mr. Haney told me this will mess up the magnetic field in the solenoid causing our problems. With 700,000 you might be in need of an injector harness...which you can do yourself also. You do some searches here and you'll find all the info you need....or just ask.

Also pull off and check where the harness enters the spacer plate. There will be two bolt holding it on. Pull it and check the inside for oils or bad contact. Electrical gremlins can drive you crazy and you'll spend ALOT trying to let someone find it just to find out it was a bad connection or frayed wire.
