(WTNH)– If you upgraded your iPhone to iOS9, you may want to change a new setting that could be sucking up all your data and making your cell phone bill more expensive.
A new feature called Wi-Fi Assist is automatically turned on when you upgrade your iPhone to iOS9. According to Quartz, this new setting is “an attempt to ensure users don’t experience any buffering when on a weak WiFi signal.” If your phone detects a weak signal, that’s when it will switch over to using cellular data from your cell phone plan instead of the Wi-Fi.
That may be helpful when you can’t connect to Wi-Fi when you need the internet and you want to boost your phone speed. However, if you don’t have unlimited data, you may end up using a lot more data from your cell phone plan than you usually use, which could make your bill more expensive.
Quartz reports that Apple appears to be aware of the change and that it is not a bug. It’s easy to turn off though. Just go to Settings, then hit the Cellular tab and then scroll to the bottom to turn off Wi-Fi Assist.
The new iOS9 upgrade also came with more helpful additions like a news app, low power mode, split-screen multitasking and app thinning.

That's good to know. But me? I find my 4G signal far better then many of the wifi signals we may run across, so I don't even bother trying to switch the phone over to an available wifi signal anymore.
I'm in hotels 10-15 days out of the month, and rarely do I get a local wifi signal that provides better throughput then the 4G signal from Verizon, and in fact they're usually bad enough to make me forget about even trying to use them, and tether to my 4G iPhone instead.
However those who automatically connect to their home wifi network when home should certainly pay attention to this setting. -
MichiganOutLaw Thanks this.

some of us just don't use that much data.
i don't use wifi at all. specially when just roaming around. since, just about everything out there, requires a password. i don't see the sense in even using wifi. -
