Perhaps they should have a good reflex test as part of the physical ??

    My dad us 84,

    drives a wrecker..............

sometimes with a loaded tractor trailer hooked to the back.

He does better than 75% of the drivers out there.

    ..............

yeah but there has to be a better way then to just whack someone on the knee. like a "timed response' perhaps. also eye, hand and foot coordination testing as well......

this would only (in my opinion) be required of CDL holders..

but if an airplane pilot has to retire at 60, and they TOO are regulated by government rules, and regulations because flying IS a safety regulated industry, then why should a CDL driver be able to be on the roads after the age of (say) 65...??? isn't by and large an older truck driver just as apt to have accidents due to eyesight or slow reflexes..???

just something i was thinking about.

Nothing wrong with extra testing after age 65 or so.Also nothing wrong with re-testing some of these 30 /40 /50 year old new drivers. I do not see how some of them passed the CDL test the first time.:biggrin_25513:

I still think it's a case by case basis.

Just kill me when I can't drive anymore....Then toast my remains, put them in a shoebox and return them to my brother in HI.

Reminds me of a story I heard one time:

An elderly woman was watching the news on tv when they reported that a driver had gone down an off ramp the wrong way, and was currently driving down the freeway in the wrong direction.

Knowing that her 77 year old husband was out driving, she called him on his cell phone to warn him about the report.

When told about what was happening, her old geezer of a husband replied, "ONE car??? They are ALL going the wrong way!!!"

I have a friend in his early 80`s who is an O/O and he looks healthier than me.I`ve noticed in the last couple of months his hearing is getting worse and he isn`t "on his game" as much as before.I think he needs to run less instead of working his ##### off like we`ve been doing. Not working would be the end of him.Just hope that when the grim reaper catches any of us that we are sitting still.
