is it mandatory? 34 hour reset

    isnt it mandatory for a driver to take a 34 hour reset?Driver has been on 25 days straight and wanting to take reset....On paper logs still..

    It's not mandatory, as long as he has legal hours to run.

    Speaking for myself, when I stay out 21 to 25 days, I prefer to get a 34 about midway, but there have more times than not that I will drive at least some every day. I just hate carrying over less than about 4 or 5 hours.

    Paper logs and you asking about a 34hr reset...lol...I never sat anywhere 34hrs unless it was at home or beyond my control. But with that said, No just because you are on the road for 25days does not mean you ran out of hours and if you did then you need to be a little more creative in your logging.

    ok let me ask this question?what happens when u request for one and your company argues with u about it and tells u no,u have hours to run?but u are tired and need it?

    Depends upon the company. In my situation, if I know I'll only have, say, three or four hours left on my 70 coming up on a given day, I'll put myself out for a 34. Sometimes, I'll check with my driver manager and we'll decide jointly if it's worth me taking a 34 or not. That will depend on the number of hours I'm gaining not only on the first day, but the several following that.

    And a final personal note on 34s....I find that more often than not, I'm more restless during a 34, and would almost rather just work 3 or 4 hours. There is only so much intelligence I can post here!:biggrin_2559:

    You are driving for the company, right? Then as long as you have hours available, it's reasonable to expect you to run.
    OTR means you drive when they need you (so long as it's legal)
    Unless there's a prior understanding, you don't get time off.
    As far as tired? If you're taking your 10's and sleeping, (not playing video games, tv, etc) you should be getting plenty of rest.
    What's the REAL problem?

    I agree in principle, but I myself get tired (perhaps not physically, but otherwise) if I'm driving that truck every stinking day for 21,25, 28 days. Sometimes, you just need a break from the wheel. I don't think that's too much to expect, unless you are indeed someone that limits their working hours to 9 or 10 a day, and would therefore have a handful of hours available at all times.

    Federal government will not back you up if you are wanting time off. Only thing they regulate is hours of service.

    Give it time....they'll be trying to regulate sleep, peeing, walking, watching TV, and a few hundred more things before we know it.....

    I'd rather run than sit.. After about 10 hours in the sleeper my back starts hurtin' sump tin' fierce. I'll take the reset if I have a day or so of low number returns and find I can't work around them.. Like tonight I am only getting 5 hour and 26 mins back. I can still deliver my load Wednesday so I am not going to sit.

    Ok I will do the reset if for some unforeseen reason I have to sit for more that 24 hours.. Having a zero return in the middle of a seven day period sucks..
