hey guys/gals. I live in CA and I just recently got my CDL Class A Permit with tanker endorsement. I have a seatbelt ticket dated Jan-2013. so its almost off, but my insurance company (geico) said its not considered a moving violation. My boss said im not cleared to drive(practice with a driver) yet because im under 25 and it costs him more than it would a driver over 25. My questions is: is he just trying to save some cash and wait till im 25 to let me get my license?? because thats not going to happen. his son who also works for the company and is my age 23, got his CDL asap and he didnt bat an eye! professional right? should i wait it out or give him an ultimatum of me going else where for employment or let me get my CDL? the way i see it is that i could make him more money driving than it would supposedly cost to insure me.
Is my boss screwing me over?!

Be prepared to hear him say, "don't let the door hit ya on your way out," if you try the ultimatum route. You ask if he is screwing you, but if he is paying you the wage you agreed to, to do the job you agreed to do, no he is not screwing you.

its not like i want to leave and yes i know everyone is replaceable. its just frustrating that he gives his son special treatment and im just as or more of a capable driver.

and screwing me over was not the best choice of words.

Well it's really hard to blame someone for favoring their son.

As for the seat belt deal hopefully you learned your lesson... I never used to wear a seatbelt until I started driving a truck... Its not even a thought now in my car or while at work it goes on 100% of the time -
25 does seem to be the magic number with insurance companies. So no, he is not screwing you over. yes, he is absorbing the extra cost to insure his son. And don't blame him for not being willing to do that with you.
blairandgretchen and Arkansas Thank this. -
yea i hear ya guys. and his son and i are really good friends. i mean iv knows this family for a long time. it just seems like he doesn't trust me (which he has no reason to) or it really is that much more money to insure me. or he is afraid that i will out perform his son. yea the seatbelt ticket was BS i was actually wearing it but it was in a moving truck and for some reason the cop was in a bad mood and said he couldn't see it. i wear it all the time, anyways it just makes me kind of mad that hes not willing to let me get it over some money. i mean we are very busy and he does fine for himself. then again im not a company owner so idk everything but in my shoes it does not feel great.

Does your boss own the company?
If so, tough titties. He may well be hoping his son will take over the business.
If not, tough titties. I mean, really, if your not really willing to walk out, what else can you do? Sucks, yes, but it is what it is. -
yes he does and yea i know it sucks. i dont wanna leave i like it here. just want more responsibility and money.
