I have a friend in Fredericksburg (VA).. his first "real" job was to drive a 26k GVWR truck for a company which did on-site paper shredding and such. Later on, he had to get a Class B so he could run the 33k truck. Single axle trucks with automatics... not the most glorious, but it paid pretty well. Maybe something like that might be available in your neck of the woods? Even if you had to start off in a vehicle which didn't require a CDL.
Just Got My Class B License, But No Job!!!

Haulin, I am/was in your class, get my "A" next week. You guys just graduated last week, I know it would be nice if you were hooked up right away but like many are saying just keep pounding the pavement. If anything I know Waste Management is always hiring, try all Dairy vendors...... Velda Farms, TG Lee and dont overlook some local Moving companies.......2 Men & Truck, ALL My Sons etc.....
Another thing to consider, sometimes you have to work in the warehouse or dock before you can get into the truck. And don't worry about the shelf life of a "B" license just keep looking, be assertive and understand because you don't have alot of experience you should be willing to start from the bottom. I did it with Boars Head. Started as a delivery helper knowing that Bob(owner) would let me obtain my "B", which I did, turned out to be one the best salesmen they ever had.
Hang in there economy is still tough. Also, just because someone says experience prefered, apply anyway you have nothing to loose. Good Luck!haulinasphalt Thanks this. -

Good luck and be safe out there. I can just hear D.O. now playing backseat driver as we speak. Now I know how wifey's Dad feels when he gets yelled at by the Mrs. for not knowing how to drive properly.

Do you know how to use a search engine? Don't expect someone to knock on YOUR door with a job offer... -
You might try finding something in expedite driving a straight truck. They require a Class B, and don't always require experience.
