It was nerve-wracking. My school let the DMV use the worst truck in their fleet for the test. I was doing the offset backing and the parallel parking and sometimes the brakes on the drive tires would lock up for no apparent reason. I didn't have my foot on the brake at all, just using clutch and accelerator to start and stop, and the air brake pressure would slowly drop until the warning light started beeping at me. There were two or three times that I'd have the truck in reverse, I'd press the accelerator to the floor and the truck just...wouldn't move.

The DMV guy noticed it and asked about it, so I dunno if that affected my test scores in any way. But, at the end of the day, I prevailed. The actual road-test went pretty smoothly, and apparently I did well enough on the rest of it to pass.

LOOK OUT, ROADS! I GOT A LICENSE! [IMG]

^^^ OR . . . should have given him a better truck! Why the worst in the fleet, O/P?

Beats me. My guess is that the better trucks had been claimed by the instructors who didn't want to inflict that POS on themselves and their students while they drove around and practiced backing. So the POS truck was the only one left for DMV testing by default. So not really an intentional thing, more of unintended consequences.

    Congrats on the pass.
Kind of makes you wonder how it passed the DMV's pre-trip to take the test. lol
If the breaks were locking up during backing, chances are they're adjusted too tight and the trailing edge of the shoes were binding in the drums..

Hopefully there will be a really decent well paying job for the OP, for many years to come.
