eanted to up grade from my cobra 29.

Was looking for another radio to buy. I'm using my own wire and 2 browning 78 antennas. My cobra I think shorted so it works here and there but in receiving well just when I key the mic no one seems to hear me. Also have an astatic mic that I thought maybe would reserve that problem, didn't.

What's a next step up from a cobra? I was looking into Stryker but wasn't sure.

I'm thinking it's the actual radio. I put a new guse in heard. Snap crackle pop and some smoke came out lol. Ever since it hasn't worked the same still recieved but I guess I did something to make it not be able to send out anything when I key and talk....

    What cobra would you reccomend

Cobra 29 Classic is on sale for $80 at T/A truckstops during July 2015 and probably August 2015.

I also suggest keeping with the Cobra 29 or 25, since you're familiar with their use (25 is a little smaller and just doesn't have the SWR function).

Down the road <groan!> you'll be better off with a "purpose-built" CB radio -- like those Cobras -- than a typical export that isn't really optimized to work in the CB range.

I would personally recommend a Cobra 148. Because it has a regulated power supply.
